Pabna Bera Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) was suspended for physically assaulting the mayor of the municipality of Bera. Abdul Baten.
Municipal Mayor Abdul Baten insulted Upazila Nirbahi official Asif Anam Siddiqui at the Upazila Development Coordination Meeting on Monday.
At that moment he insulted and intimidated her in inaudible language. Pabna (DC) Deputy Commissioner Kabir Mahmud sent a letter to the local government department to take the necessary action in the incident.
In light of this, the local government department issued a removal order for Abdul Baten on Tuesday.
By the way, Abdul Baten is the brother of the former Minister of the Interior of State, Shamsul Haque Tuku.
Pabna Deputy Commissioner Kabir Mahmud told Jugantar that Bera Municipal Mayor Abdul Baten pressured UNO Asif Anam Siddiqui to pass a written resolution on the leasing of the Kazirhat and Nagarbari ghats in upazila.
The UN refused to approve the matter because it was out of politics. I have received reports that Mayor Baten has treated him rudely. We have informed the highest levels of government about this.
The local government department fired him considering the matter. DC Kabir Mahmud said he already received the letter about it.
It is known that the mayor of the Bera municipality, Abdul Baten, lobbied the UN to pass the resolution of a written decision to hand over Kazirhat and Nagarbari Ghats under the control of the Upazila Administration to Upazila Parishad in a completely unconstitutional manner. The Upazila Nirbahi official said the matter could not be approved because it was beyond the mayor’s jurisdiction and was not legal.
At that time, the municipal mayor of Bera, Abdul Baten, became extremely nervous and began to abuse the Upazila Nirbahi officer in vulgar language. At one point he got up from the chair and pushed her and when he was about to hit her, the others present at the meeting tried to stop him. Later, the meeting became useless.
Everyone present at the meeting was shocked. This incident sparked intense outrage among the district administration and all officials. In this situation, the local government department fired him.
