The country’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a West Bengal businessman on charges of cattle smuggling. The businessman, Enamul Haque, is a resident of Murshidabad and is known as the ‘Mulhota’ of the Bangladesh Grupachar union. He was arrested in Delhi. Previously, he was arrested for bribing an officer from the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). Anandabazar News.
It is known that the CBI may have met Enamul Haque and his cattle smuggling syndicate while looking for a source of money that did not match the income of the BSF commander, Jibu de Matthews, who was arrested in a bribery case.
According to Indian media reports, Jibu received a large sum of money from the Enamul union in exchange for assistance in smuggling cattle across the international border into Bangladesh. After questioning him, CBI detectives learned that in addition to Jibu, several BSF officers working in Malda and Murshidabad and several senior BSF South Bengal Border officers were also receiving a large amount of money from the Enamul traffic union.
Based on that source, the CBI launched a separate investigation into the cattle smuggling case at the Kolkata branch last September. A search was conducted at the Kolkata home of a BSF officer named Satish Kumar.
In addition to Satish, charges have also been brought against Enamul Haque, Satish’s son, and some of Enamul’s associates. In addition to Satish’s house, the CBI also searched Enamul’s house in Beniapukur that day.
Enamul will be handed over to a special CBI court in Delhi and taken to Kolkata in pre-trial detention, CBI sources said.
