President Farooq Abbasi is the main defendant in the brutal machete killing of a woman named Nazma Begum (50) in the village of Bhaorkhola. In addition, the police filed another complaint against him on February 19, the day of the murder, for recovering a large quantity of weapons from his home. The Comilla district and the Meghna police arrested him in Dhaka on Wednesday in connection with the weapons case.

Additional Police Superintendent Miyaji added that President Abbasi is currently in his custody. He will be sent to jail through a Comilla court on Thursday. He will also be sent to court for questioning.

Sirajul Islam Siraj, joint coordinator of the Upazila Swechchhasebak League, was having a dispute with Abbasi over his candidacy in the last UP elections. As a result, on February 19, a group of terrorists led by Abbasi attacked the home of Siraj and his brother Abdus Salam in the village of Bhaorkhola, abducting and wounding six people. Among them was Nazma Begum, Salam’s wife. The next day, Sirajul Islam, the deceased’s brother-in-law, filed a murder case against 15 to 20 unidentified people, naming 24 people as the main defendants.

Furthermore, there are accusations against Abbasi for killing Sohail Chowdhury. On December 16, 1996, Sohail Chowdhury was shot dead by terrorists at the Abedin Tower on Highway No. 18 in Banani.
