The police eventually arrested Faruk Sarkar Abbasi, president of the Bhavarkhola Union in Meghna Upazila de Comilla, accused in several murder cases, including the film actor Sohail Chowdhury. He was arrested on Wednesday (March 31) afternoon in the East Rayerbazar area of the Hazaribagh Police Station in Dhaka.
Comilla’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Shahriar Mohammad Miaji confirmed the matter to the media. He will be sent to the Comilla jail on Thursday under the supervision of the Meghna and Comilla DB police.
“We have information that in two cases, the superior court granted the president a four-week bond,” the police superintendent said. However, the plaintiff appealed to cancel the bond. In this context, we learn that the Appeals Division has suspended advance bail in the President’s weapons case. We’ve been keeping him under surveillance for the past two days to find out the matter. On Wednesday, it was confirmed that the advance bond granted to him by the higher court in the weapons case was suspended. He was arrested in the East Rayerbazar area of the Hazaribagh Police Station in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.
President Farooq Abbasi is the main defendant in the brutal machete killing of a woman named Nazma Begum (50) in the village of Bhaorkhola. In addition, the police filed another complaint against him on February 19, the day of the murder, for recovering a large quantity of weapons from his home. The Comilla district and the Meghna police arrested him in Dhaka on Wednesday in connection with the weapons case.
Additional Police Superintendent Miyaji added that President Abbasi is currently in his custody. He will be sent to jail through a Comilla court on Thursday. He will also be sent to court for questioning.
Sirajul Islam Siraj, joint coordinator of the Upazila Swechchhasebak League, was having a dispute with Abbasi over his candidacy in the last UP elections. As a result, on February 19, a group of terrorists led by Abbasi attacked the home of Siraj and his brother Abdus Salam in the village of Bhaorkhola, abducting and wounding six people. Among them was Nazma Begum, Salam’s wife. The next day, Sirajul Islam, the deceased’s brother-in-law, filed a murder case against 15 to 20 unidentified people, naming 24 people as the main defendants.
Furthermore, there are accusations against Abbasi for killing Sohail Chowdhury. On December 16, 1996, Sohail Chowdhury was shot dead by terrorists at the Abedin Tower on Highway No. 18 in Banani.
The Meghna Police Station OC Abdul Majid said there were several cases against the main terrorist Farooq Abbasi at the Meghna Police Station, including two murder cases. He was arrested in Dhaka in a joint operation by the Comilla DB Police at the Meghna Police Station.
