The main defendant in the rape case at MC College was arrested

Saifur Rahman, the main defendant in the Murali Chand (MC) College dormitory gang rape case in Sylhet, has been arrested in Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj.

Earlier, on September 25, around 8 pm, a group of young men raped a young woman and her husband as they walked in front of the university gate. That same night, the husband of the rape victim filed a case with the Shah Paran Police Station in Sylhet, citing six persons and three unidentified persons as accomplices.

The accused are Saifur Rahman (28), Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony (25), Arjun Lankar (25), Mahfuzur Rahman Masum (25), Rabiul Islam (25) and Tarekul Islam (26).

The arrested Saifur Rahman is a resident of the village of Chandaipara in Balaganj upazila de Sylhet. The MC College alumnus was occupying the college caretaker’s bungalow and living there, university authorities said.

The police raided the bungalow on the night of September 25 and recovered a pistol, four battering rams and several iron bars. The police also brought a case against Saifur under the Gun Law that same night.
