Police arrested 20-year-old Mizanur Rahman, the main defendant in the murder case of 14-year-old schoolgirl Neela Roy, in Savar. He was arrested on the side of Colonel Brickfind of Rajfulbaria at the Savar Tentuljhora Union around 8pm on Friday.
Earlier on Thursday, members of RAB-4 arrested Mizanur de Charigram’s mother and father in Singair upazila of Manikganj in the middle of the night. On the morning of September 23, another suspect named Selim Paloyan was arrested from Aricha in Manikganj. Four people, including three defendants, were arrested in the case.

Mizanur’s mother Nazmunnahar Siddique (55) and father Abdur Rahman (60) are also charged in the murder case. Police believe Selim, who lives next door to Mizanur, was present at the scene of the murder. Meanwhile, the court has granted a two-day preventive detention to Selim and Mizanur’s parents.
The investigating officer in the case, Deputy Inspector (SI) of the Savar Model Police Station, Nirmal Chandra Ghosh, presented the two detainees in court and requested a seven-day pre-trial detention. The defendant’s lawyer requested bail seeking the cancellation of the preventive detention. The state opposes bail. After hearing from both parties, the court rejected the request for bail and granted pretrial detention.
On September 20, around 8 pm, Mizanur dragged Neela, a tenth grade student, to an abandoned house in Palpara Mahalla on her way to the hospital in a rickshaw with her brother. There she stabbed Sapphire one after another and fled. Neela’s family claims that Mizanur killed Neela for rejecting the love proposal. The night after the incident, Neela’s father, Narayan Roy, filed a murder case. Four other unidentified people, including Mizanur and her parents, have been charged in the case.
Protests demanding justice
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Chhatra Mahajot (BHJM) and the Savar Upazila branch of the Bangladesh Socialist Party (BSD) organized separate protests and human chains demanding 72 hours for the arrest and trial of Mizanur Rahman, the main defendant in Neela’s murder. Roy.
The large student alliance and BSD held these programs yesterday in front of the collapsed Rana Plaza on the Mukti corner of the police station bus stop. Fani Bhushan Haldar, Hindu Mahajot’s secretary for student affairs, chaired the function. Many were present, including Pradeep Kanti Des, president of the Great Alliance of Hindu Youth. There is no healthy political-cultural practice in society. There is no salvation from this murder, rape, extortion, and vandalism except the movement to build that practice. If Mizanur is not arrested within a week, the show warns of a bigger move.
