Police arrested Hafez Yahya, a teacher accused of beating a child student from the Hifz department of the Markazul Islamic Quran Academy in Hathazari Upazila of Chittagong.

Hathazari Police Inspector (investigation) Rajib Sharma said he was arrested in the Hathazari area on Wednesday afternoon.

He said the boy’s mother, Parveen Akhter, had filed a case accusing the defendant.

Previously, a video of a beaten child went viral on social media Tuesday night. After the incident, UNO Ruhul Amin from Hathazari Upazila together with the accompanying police force raided the madrasa around 2 am, arrested the accused teacher and rescued the boy from the madrasa.

Madrasa teacher Hafeez Yahya, who brutally tortured the student, is the son of Mohammad Yunus from Safarvata village in Rangunia upazila of Chittagong.

The child’s guardian was later released after refusing to file a legal complaint against the teacher. He left the madrasa when the madrasa authorities dismissed him at night.

Although the madrasa authorities fired the teacher, there was a huge backlash when the matter went viral on social media. In such a situation, the police arrested him again on Wednesday afternoon.
