Police arrested Panchagarh’s lawyer, Habibur Rahman, accused of raping a schoolgirl. He was arrested for raping a tenth-grade student in Panwari’s Atwari upazila. The court sent him to jail on Saturday afternoon. Habibur Rahman is the son of the late Abdul Khaleq of Baragao village in the Dhamor junction of Atwari upazila. He is a lawyer in the Panchagarh District Court.
Locals said the schoolgirl’s father had borrowed money from lawyer Habib with interest. That is the source of her relationship with Habib. Last Thursday, the schoolgirl went to visit a relative’s home in the Barghati area. Habib went there around 10:30 am on Friday. Habib told the schoolgirl that her father had asked her to take him home. He took her to Sushil’s home in the Kalikapur village of Atwari upazila on an easy bike and raped her. At that time, people in the area approached the girl and arrested Habib in an abusive situation.
The girl was later rescued and admitted to the Atwari Upazila Health Complex. Meanwhile, the police arrested lawyer Habib and took him to the police station. Later that night, the schoolgirl’s father filed a lawsuit against lawyer Habibur Rahman Habib and his two accomplices at the Atwari Police Station.
The girl’s mother said that lawyer Habib paid my husband 15,000 rupees in interest. I know him well. That is why she came to our house several times. He has ruined my daughter with that opportunity. After the incident, the girl’s relatives admitted her to the Atwari Upazila Health Complex.
Said the Upazila health officer. Raziur Rahman Raju He said, I initially had signs of rape. Even after that, he has been referred to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital for confirmation.
Izar Uddin, the police officer in charge of Atwari, said lawyer Habibur Rahman was arrested and sent to jail through court. The other two defendants in the case are on the run. The operation continues to stop them.
