Calcutta: It was five thirty in the afternoon. Soumitra Chattopadhyay’s body was taken from Rabindrasadan.
The destination is Keoratala Mahasmashan. The last trip of the legendary actor was attended by countless fans.
During the Diwali season in West Bengal, all the lights seemed to fade from him. The same scene was seen during the farewell. The slope of the town at the end of the route. Everyone steps forward to cheer. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, actor Dev, Rukmini Maitra and Raj Chakraborty joined the procession.
Leftist Biman Basu and Sujan Chakraborty also walked the next row. Indranil Sen sang the song, Kaushik Sen recited the poem written by him paying tribute to the actor. BJP MPs also paid their respects.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also expressed her condolences for Soumitra’s disappearance. Mofakkharul Iqbal, head of the Bangladeshi embassy, paid tribute to Rabindrasadna with that message and flowers. Prominent people, including the president and prime minister of India, have mourned the legend’s death.
Soumitra Chatterjee was honored with a song of greeting as announced by the Government of the State of West Bengal. The last rites were performed with state honors. During the greeting of the song, his daughter Paulmi Basu burst into tears. The deadly body of legendary artist Soumitra Chatterjee disappeared in Panchabhu around 6pm.
Earlier, his body was brought to the Technician Studio at Taliganj Studio Para via Golfgreen’s house around 2 p.m. on the Chief Minister’s instructions. There, many actors and crew paid their last respects to their favorite artist. After a couple of hours in Rabindrasadna, Soumitra’s body was taken to Keoratala Mahasmashan. The last rites were performed there under the supervision of his daughter Paulmi Basu.
Everyone, regardless of race or caste, paid their last respects to this legendary actor. Never before has such passion been seen for the legendary contemporary actor from Uttam-Suchitra. The end is another chapter in the story.
