The Sammilita Islami Jote of Bangladesh has called it dirty politics to compare sculpture to the creation of idols and call it shirk or foreign culture. This was stated by the president of the alliance, Maulana Ziaul Hasan, in a press conference at the National Press Club on Sunday.
He said: ‘Bengali culture is not a foreign culture, it is our own culture. In this culture, things that are celebrated without shunning or a mixture of sharing with Allah are suddenly called shirking culture, which is nothing more than dirty politics. According to the hadith of Bukhari Sharif, idol does not mean the material to avoid. A small statue of a toy horse was kept in Hazrat Ayesha 4’s house. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not forbid it. These little dolls or idols were not to worship but to play. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not forbid. Similarly, sculptures that stand as a symbol of beauty and taste or as a monument to a historical event are not prohibited according to Islamic teachings.
Maulana Ziaul Hasan said sculpture and idol worship are not one. Do not try to heat the field by misinterpreting the meaning of the words statue and sculpture. Because the people of this country were not wrong in recognizing you even in ’71, they still won’t. When any Muslim from Bangladesh pays tribute with flowers at Shaheed Minar, National Memorial, Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial, they do not worship or pray according to the teachings of Bukhari and Muslim Sharif’s Hadith ‘Innamal Amalu Binniyat’.
Mentioning that there are sculptures in different countries of the Muslim world, the leader added that even hard-line Wahhabi lords know that animal sculpture does not mean shirking. There is a sculpture called The Fist in the main center of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, it is a sculpture of the fist hand. There are also sculptures of horses and fish. Similarly, there are sculptures of horses and other creatures in Muslim-dominated Dubai, Iran, Indonesia, and Egypt. It has been shown that whether the sculpture is of the living body or of any part of the body, if it is not made for the purpose of eluding or worshiping, then there is no prohibition.
The president of the Islamic Alliance said that while it is forbidden to sculpt in the orthodox ideology of the Taliban, the Hefazatis are talking about introducing that ideology as completely anti-Islamic. If the Hefazatis are genuinely opposed to the sculpture, they can demonstrate it at Khagrachari, near Hathazari. There is a large sculpture of the late President Ziaur Rahman on the outskirts of the city of Khagrachhari. By breaking this idol of man, you can show how serious you are about it.
He said the purpose for which the statues and sculptures are being built will determine whether it is legal or illegal. Addressing Charmonai Pir Mufti Muhammad Faizul Karim and Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque, Maulana Ziaul Hasan said: “Go to parliament with the mandate of the people to implement these anti-national movements and pass the bill.”
In demanding an end to the mosque-centered policy, the Islamic Alliance president said: “The mosque is the house of God, it is everyone’s duty to protect its holiness.” Dirty politics in the mosque, diplomacy, processions, movements, cocktails, bombs, assaulting the police with mosque microphones, snatching police weapons and beating them, throwing bricks and stones cannot be the work of a pious man. The same applies to madrasas. We urge the government to ban all political activities of militant supporters, religious organizations and the business community, including the Jamaat-Shibir Hefazati clique, at the Baitul Mukarram Mosque and its facilities.
Also present at the press conference were Vice President Jobaid Ali, Vice President Abdus Sobhan Mia, Secretary General Abul Hossain, Organizational Secretary Mosleh Uddin Forkan, Advertising and Publications Secretary Faruk Hossain and others.
