Clashes have started in the area after a staircase of the Uttar Gidari government primary school in Malibari Union of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila was painted in the style of the national flag. This staircase is painted red in the middle and green on both sides. When the matter became known to the local population, there was anger. They demanded justice for the principal and the president of the school management committee.

Locals said the stairs to the second floor of the elementary school were painted last Wednesday (September 2). The work was done by a local painter named Saddam Hussein. When the matter became known to the local population, they protested. But Saddam did not listen.

Saddam Hussein, a local painter, said the painting was done in different parts of the school according to instructions from school authorities. I don’t know more than that.

When asked about the matter by the school principal, Nadira Begum, on her mobile phone, she said that Tk 244,000 was recently allocated for the renovation and decoration of the school building under the PEDP-3 and Slip project. These stairs are painted as part of that work. She further said that if there is any mistake in it, it will be rectified very soon.

Chairman of the School Management Committee and General Secretary of District No. 2 of the Awami League Union. Jahidul Islam Zakir expressed his regret over the matter and said: “I was not aware of the matter.” I was surprised to hear from the local people. The stairs have been painted in the shape of our great national flag. This is not appropriate at all. He spoke with the director and assured him that the matter would be resolved soon.

District Elementary Education Officer. Hossain Ali said that if such an incident occurred, the matter would be investigated and the necessary action would be taken against the culprits.
