The killer was identified but no arrest was made
The identity of the woman who died of suffocation after being raped in the cabin of a motorboat bound for Barisal from Dhaka has been discovered. Meanwhile, SI Alok Chowdhury from Barisal Sadar Nauthana has filed a case against the unidentified persons. The woman’s body was identified by her relatives after an autopsy at the Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue (Shebachim) on Tuesday. The body was later handed over to them.
According to sources from the Naval Police, the deceased was identified as Jannatul Ferdous Laboni, 29 years old. Laboni, a mother of two, is an electrician. She lived with her father Abdul Latif Mia and her mother Mumtaz Chowdhury in the Pallabi-2 area of Dhaka. Laboni is the youngest of a brother and three sisters. She passed the Open University SSC exam.
According to naval police sources, Laboni was coming to Barisal from Sadarghat in Dhaka on Sunday in a speedboat named MV Parabat-11 with her estranged boyfriend. Her father spoke to Laboni by phone until 9pm. Police recovered her body from the launch booth the following Monday morning. However, the police could not immediately reveal her identity as there were no other signs, including the scarf and bag. In the end, the police revealed the identity based on the fingerprints. Father Abdul Latif and Brother Moktar Mia identified the bodies of the six women in the cold room of the Shebachim morgue in Barisal yesterday afternoon.
The investigating officer in the case, Sadar Nauthana OC Abdullah-al Mamun, said that the accused killer had been identified and that efforts were being made to arrest him. However, the identity of the investigation will not be revealed.
