The High Court has postponed for six months the case of Prothom Alo’s editor, Matiur Rahman, regarding the death of Naimul Abrar, a student at the Dhaka Residential Model School and University. Following today’s High Court order, Prothom Alo’s editor’s attorney, Mostafizur Rahman Khan, told Prothom Alo that there was no allegation of Matiur Rahman’s involvement in the investigation report of the case. He was not present at the scene. He was not in charge of supervising and managing the program. He was also not involved in the event’s power management issues. No witnesses even mentioned Matiur Rahman’s name. There is no point in bringing charges against him. For these reasons the petition was rejected.
Prothom Alo’s publisher, Matiur Rahman, filed a request in High Court on December 8 to vacate the case. The hearing was ordered on December 10 and today.
Senior attorneys Rokon Uddin Mahmud and Mostafizur Rahman Khan appeared before Prothom Alo’s editor in court. Also present were lawyers Harunur Rashid, Aftab Uddin Siddiqui and Prashant Karmakar.
Deputy Attorney General Saifuddin Khaled appeared for the state.
