Amid market instability, the government increased the price of potatoes by another 5 Tk per kg. It is said that the price was raised to control the market.
At the retail level, the maximum price for potatoes has been set at Rs 35 per kg. This price will be effective from Wednesday (October 21).
A few days ago, the government had set the price of potatoes at 30 Tk per kg due to the sudden increase in prices. The price was a few rupees more than usual. Because even two months ago, the price of potatoes on the retail market in different parts of the country was Rs 20-25 per kg.
Although the price was set at 30 Tk per kg, the government was unable to implement it. In this situation, another 5 rupees was increased.
According to everyone’s decision, the maximum retail price for potatoes was set at 35 Tk on Tuesday afternoon, said Mohammad Yusuf, director general of the Department of Agricultural Marketing.
He said the price of potatoes was re-determined after talks with traders at the Khamarbari Agricultural Marketing Department at 3 pm.
At the meeting, Mohammad Yusuf, General Manager of the Agricultural Marketing Department, first proposed a price of Tk 33 per kg at retail and Tk 28 at wholesale. However, if the market committee vetoed it, the proposal was rejected.
Subsequently, if the price is offered at Rs 35 per kg at retail level, Rs 30 per kg at wholesale level, and Rs 28 per kg in cold storage, it is accepted.
