The government has not presented a case against Hefazat-e-Islam, an aggrieved party has presented a case. The judiciary is independent; Anyone can seek redress for injustice, sue. The government has nothing to do here.

Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said this in response to a question from journalists in Khagrachhari about Hefazat-e-Islam’s warning to withdraw the case filed in connection with the death of the late Amir Allama Shafi of Hefazat.

At the time, he added, it was a civil right to sue, some people thought it was unfair, they were upset that they had sued. Anyone can sue.

Regarding the safety of sculptures across the country, he said there is a directive in the High Court on the safety of sculptures. The government is working accordingly. Sculpture is part of our history and we all have a responsibility to protect it.

Previously, Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated e-passport service activities in Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Narayanganj and Chandpur in an inaugural function held at the Khagrachhari Regional Passport Office on Thursday noon. Through this, the electronic passport service has reached 64 districts of the country.

The Secretary of the Department of Security Services, Shahiduzzaman, the Director General of the Passport Department, Major General Ayub Chowdhury and the local MP Kujendra Lal Tripura spoke on the occasion.

Speakers said that Bangladesh, like other developed countries in the world, has been included in e-passport service activities. The electronic passport will have polymer cards and antennas. The chip inside the card will contain all the information of the passport holder. This will allow the authorities of any country to easily know all the information about the traveler.

Basanti Chakma, Member of Parliament for the seat reserved for women, Pratap Chandra Biswas, Deputy Commissioner of Khagrachhari, Mohammad Abdul Aziz, Superintendent of District Police, Mong Sui Pru Chowdhury Apu, Chairman of the Khagrachhari District Council were present at the ceremony inauguration of the electronic passport service.
