Potato prices are out of reach now

In the retail market, the government has raised the price per kilo of potato from Tk 30 to Tk 35. The price was set at an exchange meeting at the Khamarbari Agricultural Marketing Department on Tuesday (October 20).

This information has been reported in a notification from the Ministry of Agriculture.

The meeting was chaired by Mohammad Yousuf, Director General of the Department of Agricultural Marketing and was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission and the National Department of Consumer Protection. In addition, the chairman of the Bangladesh Cold Storage Association, warehouse managers, including potato wholesalers from Kawran Bazar and Shyambazar, were present at the meeting.

Previously, on October 8, the Agricultural Marketing Department had set the price per kg of potato at 23 Tk at the cold storage level, 25 Tk at the wholesale level and 30 Tk at the consumer level. Letters were also sent to the deputy commissioners to confirm this price. But the merchants opposed the fixed price. At one point they stopped selling potatoes.

Taking into account the general situation, the price of potato was re-fixed at 28 Tk per kg in cold rooms, 30 Tk at wholesale and 35 Tk at retail.
