The bodies of six members of the same family who died in a road accident in Daulutpur in Manikganj were buried in Nagarpur in Tangail.

However, due to lack of money, the funeral of the deceased did not take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday (December 5) in the Chashavadra village of upazila. As a result, the bodies were buried in the courtyard of his house. However, an hour after the bodies were buried in the morning, the district administration and officials from the Upazila administration visited the homes of the victims and provided financial assistance.

The deceased has been identified as Harekrishna Badyakar, 50, son of the late Nitai Badyakar of the Chashavadra village in Nagarpur upazila, his son Govinda Badyakar, 26, Govinda Babita Badyakar’s wife, 25, his daughter Radhe Badyakar, 4, and grandmother by Govinda, Khuki Badikar. Ramprasad Badyakar (35), son of the late Juran Badyakar from the same area, is Dharma’s father-in-law. GNC autorickshaw driver Jamal Sheikh, 30, the son of Sadar Ali from Sametpur village in Daulatpur upazila was also killed in the incident.

UP Member from Bhadra Village. Bellal Sardar said there were no survivors in the deceased’s family, except for Harekrishna’s wife, Jharna, and the wives of his two brothers. They are very poor. It takes between 60 and 70 thousand rupees to incinerate the bodies of six people at a time. It is not possible to give so much money to that family. So everyone decided that the body would be buried in the morning. However, if the relatives of the deceased demanded cremation, they would have cooperated.

The president of Bhadra UP admitted that the bodies of six people were buried without cremation. Habibur Rahman Khan said the administration had awarded financial grants to six families, including Harekrishna Badyakar’s family, an hour after the bodies were buried in the morning. He also secured the cooperation of the Parishad Union.

Nagarpur (Lands) Deputy Commissioner Tarin Masroor said the district administration had given Tk 25,000 in cash to the families of the victims, Tk 10,000 to the family of cousin Ram Prasad Badyakar and Tk 10,000 to the family of Jamal Sheikh, an CNG-powered auto rickshaw driver who died in a car accident the same day. However, he did not know if six members of the same family were buried instead of being buried for lack of money. No one informed him about this. He also said that if any of the relatives of the deceased had informed him about the matter, the administration would have taken the initiative to complete the funeral.

Sifat-e-Jahan, an official from Nagarpur Upazila Nirbahi (UN), said the upazila administration had been keeping a close eye on it since news of the death of six people in the accident. He also spoke to the president of UP from time to time. However, he was not informed that the funeral would not take place due to lack of money. Even then, in the morning, they went ahead and cooperated. But before that, the land of the dead was buried.

Present on the occasion were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Aminul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi (UN) Officer Sifat-e-Jahan, Deputy Commissioner (Land) Tarin Masroor and others.

It can be mentioned that on Friday (December 4) morning, six family members, including Dada Harekrishna, left Nagarpur in a GNC autorickshaw to see their granddaughter Radhe at Manikganj Sadar Hospital. Six family members, including two women, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and an autorickshaw in the Mulkandi area on the Ghior-Daulatpur regional highway at around 2.30pm.
