The flower market is crowded around Pahela Falgun and on Valentine’s Day. Love Week has started from February 8th. International Mother Language Day is approaching. All in all, traders say flower cutting is pretty good. They say that this month at least 50 to 60 million rupees will be sold in flowers. From this, the business worth Rs 40 crore could be related to Spring Festival and World Love Day.
The capital’s flower markets were visited on Saturday and the traders were very busy. They are struggling to supply flowers on demand. In the wholesale market, the price of a rose is eight rupees. Gladiolus is sold for 12 rupees, tuberose for 10 rupees, and gerberas for 8 rupees. However, buyers claim that prices are much higher in the retail market. Each rose is sold in the market at a price of 20 to 40 rupees. Gladiolus is sold for 20 rupees, tuberose for 15 rupees and gerberas for 10 rupees.
Traders say that today (February 14) each rose can be sold for 50 rupees. At the Falgun festival, the girls want to wear flower rings on their heads. Usually this ring sells for Rs 40-50, but today it can be sold for Rs 80-100.
In Agargaon, I spoke with Sohail Rahman, the owner of Nusat Garden. He said that because of Corona, there was not much flower business during the wedding season. Good business expected in spring, Valentine’s Day and Ekushey February.
Abul Kalam Azad, President of the Shahbagh Battala Small Flower Traders Cooperative Society, said: “It seems like the business days are coming after a long time. However, we do not have the same business as before. Many of our merchants are still in debt. After Corona, many merchants have survived by borrowing money. Now the trade is pretty good. But business is better now than it was two months ago.

Babul Prasad, president of the Dhaka Flower Traders Welfare Association, told Kaler Kanth that flowers from all over the country come to Shahbag, while many people buy flowers from here and take them to different districts of the country. Now flowers are grown in 23 districts of the country. Flower growers and sellers hope to make a profit around the spring festival and Ekushey February. The demand for roses and marigolds is a bit high at the spring festival.
