Although there is a family cemetery locally, Altaf Hossain from Atul village in Joypurhat’s Panchbibi upazila bought 6 acres of land in front of his house just for his family members. His two sons were first buried in that land.
They were killed in a train and bus collision in the Puranapail Railgate area of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila around 8am on Saturday (December 19). They are Sarwar Hossain (40) and Arifur Rahman Rabbi (20).
Mourning the loss of his two sons, Altaf Hossain said, “Why was I not buried there before burying them for the cemetery?”
Parents are almost angry after losing their two children
He said: “Sarwar went to Dhaka last Wednesday with the rabbi to be admitted to the Bachelor of Textile Engineering at a private university. After admission, the two brothers said by phone that they would get off at Joypurhat station on the Panchagarh Express train from Dhaka in the evening. No more talk. Later in the morning, if you call the older son, he doesn’t answer the phone. He said that the owner of the cell phone died in the train accident. After a while I also received the news of the death of my eldest son.
Anwar Hossain, the deceased’s uncle, said he had two children, Altaf Hossain and Ambia Begum. Also, they have no more children. The eldest son, Sarwar, is a veterinarian. His wife Jiasmin is pregnant. And Rabbi has been talented since childhood. To do this, the father’s hobby was to turn his son into an engineer. In the meantime, he went to Dhaka to be admitted as he was autopsied at HSC. Earlier, a few days ago, the father and the youngest son went to Dhaka and brought information.
Altaf Hossain’s friend Mamunur Rashid, a village doctor, said: “My friend’s two sons were very kind. Father Altaf and mother Ambia Khatun are almost angry after losing their two children. Not only them, but also the villagers who came to comfort them are speechless’
It is worth mentioning that a passenger bus called Bandhan (Bogra J-11-0006) leaving from Joypurhat was heading towards the land port of Hili. When crossing the gate of the Puranapail railway from Joypurhat Sadar Upazila, the bus was hit by a Rajshahi bound Uttara Express train departing from Parbatipur in Dinajpur. Ten passengers on the bus were killed on the spot. The injured were sent to Bogra Shajimek Hospital for advanced treatment. Two more died on the way to Bogra.
