The father of a 10th-class student in Panchagarh’s Atwari upazila borrowed money from lawyer Habibur Rahman with interest. According to the source, the lawyer raped the girl at a friend’s house. The police arrested him. The court sent him to jail on Saturday afternoon.
Habibur Rahman, a resident of Baragao village in the Dhamor junction of Atwari upazila, went to jail. He is a lawyer in the Panchagarh District Court. His father’s name was Abdul Khaleq (deceased).
According to the girl’s mother and the locals, the victim’s father borrowed Tk 15,000 with interest from Habibur Rahman. The teenager was presented to him in that formula. Last Thursday, the schoolgirl went to visit a relative’s home in the Barghati area. Habib went there around 10:30 am on Friday. Her father called the girl and told her to go home with her. Later, he took her to his friend Sushil’s house in the Kalikapur village of Atwari upazila and raped her. At that moment, the people of the area rushed to arrest Habib.
When the locals reported, the girl was rescued and admitted to the Atwari Upazila Health Complex. At the same time, Habib was also arrested and taken to the police station. Later that night, the schoolgirl’s father filed a lawsuit against lawyer Habibur Rahman Habib and his two accomplices at the Atwari Police Station. That case showed Habib’s arrest.
Said the Upazila health officer. Raziur Rahman Raju said: ‘Initially I had signs of rape. Even then, the victim has been referred to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital for confirmation.
Izar Uddin, the police officer in charge of Atwari, said: “Attorney Habibur Rahman has been arrested and sent to jail through the court. The other two defendants in the case are on the run. Continue the operation to stop them.
