A group of scoundrels struck the elderly father with a stick and wounded him in Aliganj Bazar of Pailgaon Union of Sunamganj’s Jagannathpur Upazila. The incident occurred Monday night. Jagannathpur police arrested four people in the incident. However, the main defendant has not yet been arrested.
Those arrested are Liton Mia (30), Akai Mia (26), Alam Mia (28) and Dilak Mia (25) from Gotgaon village.
The police rescued the girl at 10 am today and took her to the police station. A video of tortured elderly people went viral on social media.
Villagers and relatives of the victim said that Anwar Ali’s daughter from Gotgaon village married Kabir Miah from Rajarbagh village in Nabiganj upazila seven years ago. After two years of marital discord, the girl took refuge in her father’s house with her only son. When he got there, Shamim Miah, the talented son of Agur Miah from the village, got angry with the girl. Often the husband abandoned the girl and made fun of her. Exasperated by her torture, the girl’s father rented a Gotgaon house to a colony in Aliganj Bazar and lived with her. A month ago, Shamim picked up the girl from the colony. Detained for some time and raped. Later, the girl got a job as a domestic worker in the village of Nabiganj upazila in Abhaynagar. Shamim and her men went to the Aliganj Bazar neighborhood around 12 pm Monday to search for the girl. Unable to find the girl, he struck her elderly father Anwar Ali (65) with a stick and inflicted bleeding wounds. Upon receiving the news, the police began an operation at night.
Anwar Ali, the girl’s father, said that he has been unable to obtain any remedy by informing local dignitaries and representatives of the people that he has been in arrears with Shamim for a long time. He forcibly took the girl out of the house and raped her. Fearing public embarrassment, the girl took a job as a maid in Nabiganj here. Shamim got mad and beat me and left me bloody.
The president of Pailgaon Union Parishad, Makhleshur Rahman, and local member Ali Akbar said that Shamim was known as a scoundrel in the area. There are robbery and drug cases against him at the police station. I have heard that the girl was sexually abused and forcibly taken away.
Jagannathpur Police Station Inspector (investigation) Musleh Uddin said: “We rescued the girl from Nabiganj with the help of the Nabiganj Police Station.” An attempt is being made to arrest the main defendant Shamim.
