The Amar Ekushey Book Fair begins today. The Ekushey Book Fair organized by Bangla Academy is dedicated to the memory of the heroic martyrs of the liberation war on the Golden Jubilee of Independence. The main theme of this year’s book fair is the ‘Centenary of the birth of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Independence’.
The book fair will be held in the widest range in history covering a total area of 1.5 million square feet. 540 publishers participate. In the reality of the Corona period, hygiene will have the highest priority at this year’s book fair. The use of a mask has been made mandatory for those who attend the fair. The 28-day fair will end on April 14. The fair will be open every day from 3pm to 9pm. It will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the Ganobhaban virtual book fair at 3pm today. The Prime Minister will unveil the cover of the book ‘NEW CHINA 1952’ translated into English by Bangabandhu as the highlight of the opening performance of the fair. Additionally, the 2020 Bangla Academy Literary Award will be awarded at the opening performance. The Minister of State for Culture, KM Khalid, will be the special guest at the opening ceremony. This time a new entrance and parking lot has been arranged at the eastern end of Suhrawardy Udyan adjacent to the Institute of Engineers. There will be secure tents at each entrance, so that people can take shelter during rains and storms. The seminars will be held on the main stage of the book fair every day from March 19 to April 14 at 4 pm.
