A student from Dhaka University (DU) testified identifying Majnu as the sole defendant in the rape case. Judge Mosammat Kamrunnahar of Dhaka’s 8th Court for Suppression of Abuse of Women and Children testified in court on Monday. After taking evidence, the judge set September 23 as the next day for the case.
The DU student was raped on January 5. Later, the student’s father became a plaintiff and filed a case with the Cantonment Police Station under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act. Then, on January 8, the RAB arrested Majnu for raping a Dhaka University student from the Sheora bus stop below the Cantonment police station. On January 9, the court granted Majnoor a seven-day preventive detention. Then, on January 17, Majnu pleaded guilty and testified in court. Majnu has been in jail ever since.
On March 17, DB Police Inspector Abu Siddique filed an indictment against Majnu in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court. On the same day, the court transferred the case to the Tribunal for the Repression of Women and Children for further trial. But due to the Corona situation, no action was taken as the court was on general leave. On August 26, the same court ordered charges in the case.
