At a press conference in the capital on Saturday morning, they demanded a re-evaluation of the ‘2020 Automotive Industry Development Policy’.
Abdul Haq, president of the Shonan-Barvida Refurbished Car Dealers and Importers Association, read a written statement.
Describing the new auto industry development policy as conflicting with the country’s industrial policy, he said the policy disagreed in principle. A country needs to have at least one lakh of cars a year to make cars.
“But in Bangladesh only 20,000 cars are sold each year. So how will this industry work here? “
For this reason, recommending the formulation of a policy to support the manufacture of exportable vehicles, the business leader said: “The demand for vehicles in the country is very limited. Only if we can make exportable cars will this industry survive in Bangladesh. “
The president of Barvida said that the country is giving many tax benefits to the automotive industry, it is not logical. The cars that will be manufactured in the country will not be friendly to the environment.
He said that millions of people in the country are involved in the reconditioned car business. Over the past 40 years, around 900 companies have invested billions of rupees here. The government also has to keep an eye on them.
