The Saudi government has allowed prayers at the Grand Mosque after a long shutdown in Corona. As a result, there is no obstacle to conducting prayers in this mosque, which is famous for citizens of Saudi Arabia and foreigners living in the country.
The country’s state television reported on Sunday (October 18).
Due to the epidemic, the mosque has been closed for a limited period of prayers since last March. Until then, the common faithful were not allowed to enter the mosque. Only the imam, the muezzin, and the mosque staff could perform the prayers there.
In a statement issued on March 18, the Saudi government suspended prayers in all mosques except the two main mosques of Mecca and Medina. Later, prayers were also interrupted in these two mosques.
On October 4, the doors of the Great Mosque were opened for the first pilgrims to Umrah. The Saudi government later said it planned to launch Umrah in three phases. In the first phase, only those who stay in Saudi Arabia will have this opportunity.
Previously, 20,000 people were allowed to perform Umrah daily, but then 30 percent, that is, 6,000 people were allowed to perform Umrah in one day according to the health rules.
In the second phase, it has been increased from Sunday to allow a maximum of 15,000 people to enter the Great Mosque for Umrah in one day. The third step will be to stay in Saudi Arabia from November 1 and allow foreign pilgrims to enter the Great Mosque of Mecca. Then 20,000 people will have the opportunity to perform Umrah every day.
