Justice Minister Anisul Haque was asked if the government was considering the death penalty as the maximum punishment for suppressing crimes such as rape in the country. In response, Anisul Haque said: ‘Without consideration. We will increase the punishment. I was ordered by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday (October 8) to begin the process of increasing the punishment for rape (amendment of the law). That is why we have started the process of amending the law to increase the punishment.

The minister said the issue of amending the law to increase the punishment for rape will come up at the cabinet meeting on Monday (October 12) next week.

It is worth mentioning that rape cases have recently increased in different districts of the country, including Begumganj in Noakhali, MC College in Sylhet, Laxmipur and Gopalganj. Faced with this situation, various political and sociocultural organizations in the country have demonstrated against him. The storm of protests also continues through social media. Faced with this situation, the government has decided to increase the penalty for rape.
