He also asked the Minister of the Interior and the Chief of Police to identify the culprits and give them exemplary punishment.
Lawyers held a protest outside the Bar Association building at the Supreme Court on Sunday over the arrest and torture of a lawyer named Ibrahim Khalil.
Matin Khasru joined the demonstration and said: “It cannot be tolerated that the forces of order go to the limits of the Supreme Court, arrest a lawyer and torture him.”
“It just came to our notice then. We are waiting for Ibrahim Khalil to come out. I will definitely bring a criminal case after hearing it. We will not give up. No one can cross with the hand of a lawyer.”
Addressing the Minister of the Interior and the Chief of Police, Matin Khasru said: “I would like to ask the IG and the Minister of the Interior to identify me. They suspended them and organized their trial. The police cannot be a scoundrel.”
If there were any complaints against attorney Khalil, action could have been taken under the rules, said the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
“Lawyers are not above the law. If you have committed a crime, you will be tried in accordance with the customary law of the country. If he had committed a crime, the police could have informed the Bar Association. The Honorable Chief Justice could have reported. You could also be arrested from your home. It was not appropriate to arrest him from the court yard. It’s arrogance, it’s an unforgivable crime. “
Former Law Minister Matin Khasru said a proposal to enact a law for the protection of lawyers would be presented to the government.
Assuring the disgruntled lawyers, he said: “I know the Interior Minister well. I will speak with him today. For one member, the image of the entire force cannot be tarnished.”
