The High Court gave Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Jannatul Ferdousi Rupa one month to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for illness. The ACC had subpoenaed DAG Rupa on the charge of acquiring illegal assets in exchange for bail by conspiring with several defendants, including contractor GK Shamim, by accepting bribes through abuse of power.
Today Tuesday, Justice. The order was approved by the Moinul Islam Chowdhury High Court and Judge AKM Zahirul Haque. Earlier, a Superior Court court had expressed its inability to hear the matter.
The lead attorneys, attorney Yusuf Hossain Humayun, ZI Khan Panna, and attorney Salauddin Dolan appeared for Rupar in court. Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan was in favor of the ACC.
Rupa’s lawyers told the court that Deputy Attorney General Rupa was hospitalized with coronavirus. He will not be able to appear before the ACC tomorrow. This takes time.
At that time, the ACC attorney said, there are more opportunities for the ACC to apply than to appear due to illness.
At the time, the court said: ‘The lower and higher courts are not free from corruption, there is nothing to cover here. This corruption must stop now.
At the same time, the court postponed Jannatul Ferdousi Rupar’s court hearing until December 3.
Earlier, on December 1, a Superior Court court expressed its inability to hear the writ of writ challenging the validity of the ACC’s notice of summons to Rupa. Justice Md. Nazrul High Court Islam Talukder and Judge Ahmed Sohail expressed their inability to hear the order’s petition. The writ petition was subsequently submitted to another court.
On November 1, Rupa filed an injunction in Superior Court challenging the validity of ACC’s notice of summons.
On October 29, the ACC summoned Rupa for questioning regarding allegations of illicit earnings, including bribery through collusion with several defendants, including GK Shamim.
It has been cited in a notice signed by Mohammad Ibrahim, Deputy Director of the ACC Integrated District Office in Dhaka. He was asked to appear at 10 am on Wednesday.
