Music has been “completely banned” from the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj. The decision will take effect on Saturday. Shahjalal Badal, Councilor for District 3 of Narayanganj City Corporation made the announcement.
The decision was made at a meeting in councilor Shahjalal Badal’s office on Monday. The video of Shahjalal Badal’s statement in this regard has gone viral on social media.
As seen in the video, in the presence of Councilor Shahjalal Badal, a person following his instructions told everyone present: ‘Singing is prohibited in this area. Letters will be issued from the councilor’s office along with every mosque committee and panchayat committee so that there is no more music in this Muslim society. It will be said in the statement of Friday prayers next Friday. Music is completely forbidden from next Saturday. He will inform each owner about the reference of that letter. ‘
This decision will be effective as of next Saturday. The meeting was asked to inform all owners of this decision. Two more meetings will be held in this regard to discuss with the OC of the police station. The area has the support of the panchayat committee for good work. The administration is expected to cooperate in this regard as well.
Admitting the matter, Councilor Shahjalal Badal told Jugantar that on different days, young rebels in the area used to sing on behalf of the DJ party until late at night. It harms people, including sick people, children and the elderly. So we all agreed from the meeting to stop singing.
In this regard, the Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Siddhirganj Police Station, Mashiur Rahman, said on his mobile phone: “I am not aware of the music ban.” Nobody gave me any letters. There is no law prohibiting music in the state. However, if someone gives us a letter, action will be taken in accordance with the law.
