Dhaka: Over the past months, there have been various speculations about the importation of the corona vaccine into the country. Finally, putting an end to all speculation, the first shipment of Corona Ticker will arrive in the country as a gift from India on Thursday (January 21).

The 2 million dose Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive in Dhaka on a special Air India flight at noon. From there, the vaccine will be kept at EPI’s warehouse in Tejgaon in the capital.

In addition, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said in a function on Wednesday that in addition to 20 lakh doses of vaccine as a gift, 1.5 million doses of corona virus will arrive in Bangladesh today from India. As such, a total of 35 lakh doses of vaccine are expected to arrive in the country on this day. In addition, 5 million doses of vaccines purchased by the Bangladeshi government will arrive in the country on January 25.

It was reported at a press conference held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday that the vaccination program will begin on January 25 when the vaccine purchased through Beximco arrives. The program will begin on January 26 or 27 vaccinating 20-25 people of different classes and professions. Between 400 and 500 people will be vaccinated and kept under observation for seven days at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital and Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hospital prior to the start of mass vaccination. The vaccine will then be shipped to the district according to the agreement through Beximeco Pharmaceuticals, monitoring if the vaccine has side effects according to the World Health Organization protocol.

Health Secretary. Abdul Mannan said that out of a total of 6 million doses of vaccines, including 20 lakh doses from India’s gift of goodwill and 5 million doses purchased by the government of Bangladesh, 8 million doses will be administered in the first month. . Thus, 5 million citizens will be vaccinated in the second month and again in the third month. The second dose of 6 million will be saved in the first month and those who are vaccinated in the first month will be vaccinated in the third month.

The health secretary said the vaccines will be administered in upazila and university medical hospitals starting February 8. Later this activity will be carried out throughout the country. Materials and training required for vaccination have been completed. Cold storage up to upazila level has been prepared for vaccine storage.

The coronavirus vaccine will only be administered in government hospitals. The vaccine will not be administered in private hospitals in the country. If someone dies after being vaccinated in private hospitals, it is the responsibility of that hospital. The Secretary of Health also warned that the government would not take responsibility.

Juena Aziz, chief coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Office, said law enforcement agencies would ensure full security throughout the country, starting with the receipt of ticker shipments at airports. It will also be the place where the vaccine will be stored. Even when they are taken to different districts of Dhaka, there will be police forces. When vaccines are administered, there will continue to be law enforcement, so that people do not crowd unnecessarily.

Professor Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director general of the health department, said that all vaccines have some side effects. Fever, body aches, slight swelling of the vaccinated area. But so far no one has been able to submit the perfect solution, which is not strange. A vaccination center has been established in the hospital to provide services to the person receiving the vaccine in case of side effects. After vaccination, the person will stay there for 10-15 minutes. Vaccination centers cannot be overcrowded, visitors cannot move. They will have a general medical system, a telemedicine service system. So you can’t create unreasonable confusion, spread rumors and generate mistrust.

The CEO said that children under 18 would not be vaccinated. Pregnant women, people with incurable diseases like cancer will be excluded from the vaccination program. Furthermore, a crore of people live outside the country. In total, around 70 million people will not be vaccinated. The great challenge of this program is to vaccinate the elderly.
