Rajshahi: A Rajshahi university student was duped into developing mobile banking services. The scammers scammed around 50,000 rupees from its development.
Later, on the advice of the police, he began to act in love with the cheater.
At one point their love grew and they went to Rajshahi from Faridpur to meet the cheating college student. Rajshahi Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police arrested the fraudster along with an accomplice.
Those arrested are Hasan Khan, 19, son of Abdul Khan from Jangalpasha Madhyapara village in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur, and Mahmud Hasan alias Bayezid, 19, son of Nur Mohammad Sheikh from Jangalpasha Purbapara village.
Based on their questioning after the arrest, the police say they are professional scammers. They manipulated Bikash’s PIN number by making a call on his mobile phone. Then he took out the bKash money from that bKash account with a six-digit PIN.
After receiving the complaint, DB police called the field using information technology to recover the money.
They were arrested on Sunday afternoon (November 29) at the Laxmipur junction in Rajshahi when they came to meet a college student who had fallen in love. At that time 6 lakhs was recovered from them.
Rajshahi Metropolitan DB (DC) Deputy Police Commissioner Abu Ahmed Al Mamun confirmed the information on Monday (November 30) at noon.
He said the victim was a student from Rajshahi New Govt. Twelfth grade college student. On November 16, he received a call from an unknown number on his mobile phone. That person was development con man Hasan. However, he introduced himself as that student’s college professor. It says the government is awarding scholarships to students through development in Corona. But the number to which the scholarship will be sent must have at least 50 lakhs for development. Then the government will send money to this number.
Unable to anticipate the matter, the student spoke to his parents and charged Tk 50,000 in development. And there was already some money in its development. After inserting money into the development of the student, the scammer Hasan got to know her PIN number. He then withdrew 51,000 rupees from the student’s development.
After realizing she was cheated on development, the student sought the help of DB police.
Abu Ahmed Al Mamun, DB Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner, said: “After hearing everything, he advised the student to speak to the cheater from another number. Since we haven’t talked much before, you may not understand. The cheater was caught with this tactic. The next day the girl started talking to him from another number. The cheater did not recognize the girl. However, after the conversation started, the cheater became more interested in talking than the girl. When he offered love to the girl, she agreed. Then love continues to act and updates us. In these 12 days their love froze.
The DB police officer said that following his advice, the student called to meet the cheater. In response to the call, Hasan arrived at the Laxmipur intersection in the Rajshahi metropolis on Sunday with another accomplice.
At that time, members of the DB police were already there to find the plainclothes. After meeting the college student, they caught the two cheaters.
A total of Tk 6,000 was recovered from the two during the arrest.
The victim’s father has filed a case against them under the Digital Security Act at the Rajpara Police Station.
They were sent to jail through court on Monday (November 30) at noon in the case.
