Munna Bhagat has raped at least 6 dead women in the last year. Signs of Munnar rape were found in the HVS (high vaginal swab) of six women. The bodies were killed by suicide. According to the CID, Munna used to rape her when she found a relatively good body between the ages of 12 and 20.
According to the CID, Munna has worked as a dome attendant at the Suhrawardy Hospital morgue for about four years. He’s been in the morgue from the beginning. He used to do this while guarding the body for the night before the autopsy. During the preliminary questioning of CID officials, Munna confessed his misdeeds.
The way the CID identified it
In 2012, the first Bangladesh police DNA laboratory was established. Since the laboratory’s establishment, the CID has created DNA evidence and profiles of all evidence submitted by the court, including rapes and murders. From March last year to August this year, the Suhrawardy Hospital forensic medicine department sent several samples to the CID. They tried to create a complete DNA profile due to the presence of male semen in the dead woman’s HVS.
A senior CID official, who did not want to be named, said: “We searched the CODIS software. The DNA of the same person has been repeatedly compared to the DNA profile obtained in various incidents at the Mohammadpur and Kafrul police stations. Which was quite unusual. The idea is that a person committed suicide due to a murder or a rape after the rape. But there were no signs of injuries on the bodies.
The CID official said: “So we think that one way or another, a person’s perverted sexual lust has been satisfied in the bodies of the victims.” After each body was taken to the morgue, an autopsy and DNA analysis was performed to determine the cause of death. All the bodies were left in the morgue for the autopsy. There were several domes regularly guarded. But in the case of these corpses, a dome attendant was on regular duty. We were initially suspicious of him. He was later contacted. In the name of getting him out and talking, we collected his DNA for tea. When it was brought to the CID lab and analyzed, it matched the DNA from those 6 bodies. So they were 100% safe and launched an operation to arrest him. The defendant understood the matter and screamed.
A press conference from CID headquarters on Friday (November 20) said Munna, a dome assistant at the Suhrawardy Hospital morgue, had been arrested on charges of raping the dead woman. Munnar’s DNA profile matched and was scientifically proven to have perverted sex on the corpse.
The CID said in the briefing that the accused would be sent to court and pretrial detention would be sought for further questioning.
