A Dhaka court ordered an investigation into a case brought against six people, including former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Saeed Khokon, for embezzling Tk 34 crore by allocating unplanned stores.
The instruction has been given to the Police Investigation Office (PBI). The court asked PBI to present its investigation report before January 31.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam approved the order on Wednesday. Atiqur Rahman Khan, a court bench clerk, confirmed this information at first glance.
In addition to Saeed Khokon, the other six defendants in the case are former Dhaka South City Corporation chief revenue officer Yusuf Ali Sardar, former deputy engineer Md. Majed, Kamrul Hasan, Helena Akhter, Atiqur Rahman and Walid.
The plaintiff in the case is Delwar Hossain, president of the Fulbaria Super Market-2 merchants association. The plaintiff’s attorney, Nahid Islam Chowdhury, told Prothom Alo that the case was brought against seven people, including former DSCC mayor Saeed Khokon, for embezzling money by allocating unplanned stores. 26 people have been called as witnesses in the case.
