The Bashundhara Mall will remain closed even if many stores open tomorrow.

Finally, the scene in some parts of the capital Dhaka will change from Sunday (May 10). After being closed for the last month and a half, several stores, stalls and malls will open. The prevalence of coronavirus in the country has increased even more, the number of infected and dead more than before. Even then, taking into account ongoing Ramadan, the upcoming Eid, etc., the government has given conditional permission to open a limited number of stores at the request of the Bangladesh Store Owners Association. In line with these guidelines, local fashion and lifestyle brands Arang and Bangladeshi footwear manufacturers Apex and Bata have already announced that they will open most of their outlets in compliance with health regulations. However, due to the inability to guarantee security, New Market, one of the main middle-class destinations in the capital, will be closed, but all stores on the opposite side of Gauchia, Chandni Chowk, Eastern Mallika, Eastern Plaza Hatirpul and Elephant Road will remain open. The DNS Market and Gazi Commercial Complex will also be opened in Gulshan sections 1 and 2 of the capital. This information has come to light after visiting different areas of the capital and speaking with the leaders of the association of owners of shops and markets.

Referring to life and livelihoods, the Bangladesh Store Owners Association asked the government for permission to open a store on the Eid occasion. In response to this request, the government made it mandatory to comply with health regulations and allowed the opening of all market malls in the country, including the capital, from Sunday (May 10). However, despite this permission, the goal is to ensure the safety of store owners, workers, and buyers. Coronavirus infections are on the rise in the country, with most shoppers discussing how to protect their own safety, as well as shoppers in this situation, and who will be responsible for treating someone in a hurry. The government has said it will take responsibility for certain professionals affected by the tax, but has said nothing about store owners or workers. As a result, in addition to their own safety, the issue of buyer safety was also under discussion. That’s why merchants couldn’t solve the problem on their own, which is a very important time for business, but they couldn’t agree to open a store before Eid. As a result, most store owners associations have decided not to open markets and shopping malls. The owners of the Bashundhara Mall and Jamuna Future Park have decided to close them.

Taking into account the health risks of the common man, Bashundhara City and Jamuna Future Park, the two most important shopping complexes in the capital and the country, decided to close Dhaka New Market shortly after. These three markets have not been open since Sunday. For the same reason, the Baitul Mukarram Mosque Market, Mouchak Market, and Anarkali Market, Motaleb Plaza, have decided not to open the market at this time. At the same time, the Bangladesh Jewelry Association decided to close all gold stores in the country. All capital Gulistan-Fulbaria wholesale markets, especially Bangabazar Complex, Annexco Tower, Mahanagar Complex, Dhaka Shopping Center, Fulbaria Supermarket, Sundarbans Supermarket, Zakir Plaza, Nagar Plaza, City Plaza, Gulistan Pur with emphasis on the health risks of ordinary people. Islamia Super Market will also be closed.

Meanwhile, focusing on business, economy and employee livelihood, Gauchia has decided to keep all stores open at DNS Market, Chandni Chowk, Eastern Plaza, Eastern Mallika, Gazi Shopping Complex and Elephant Road in sections Gulshan 1 and 2 from the capital. Officials at these market associations say their business has suffered greatly as a result of the closure for a long time. The economy has suffered great losses. As a result of the depletion of accumulated capital, they are now defenseless. The employees are half starving. When you start a store or business, they will see the face of the money at least a little.

Local fashion and lifestyle brand Arang and Bangladeshi shoe maker Apex and Bata were revealed to have been limited in size since Sunday, May 10, to ensure compliance with hygiene standards. Considering the situation, local fashion houses have decided to open outlets on their own.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Abu Tayyab, media adviser to the Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest trade organization, told the Bengali Tribune: “It has been decided not to open the market on the instructions of Bashundhara Group President Ahmed Akbar Sobhan.” Market traders also agreed with this decision. We have had discussions with them. They have agreed to manage the business in accordance with all Bashundhara Group decisions.

Mohammad Abu Tayyab said the government’s decision not to open Bashundhara Super Mall during Eid would not disobey any order or directive, adding: “It is not just Bangladesh, it is the largest shopping center in the region.” There is no limited opportunity to run a business or open a store here. If the market opens during Eid, several lakh people will gather every day. It cannot be prevented in any way. Then there will be health risks. No doubt about it. That is why the president of the Bashundhara Group has made that decision thinking about the lives of ordinary people. ”

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammad Alamgir Alam, director of the Jamuna Group, said the decision was made not to open the Jamuna Future Park to avoid the risk of infection and death of thousands of people when the Corona epidemic peaked at despite the increased security preparations. Because, Jamuna Group thinks country before, life before, business after. That is why Jamuna Group has closed the mall by itself and has blocked the path of income for love of the people of the country.

On the other hand, the general secretary of the market Gulshan-1 DNCC. Joynal Abedin said that while one section of market merchants wanted to open a store, another section had some objections. But we want to follow the government’s instructions. We are opening the market in a limited range since Sunday May 10. We take almost everyone’s opinion over the phone.

Meanwhile, Abul Kashem, president of DNCC Market in Gulshan-2, said: “We will open our market from Sunday May 10, following the instructions of the government.” Our decision in this regard is final. Market merchants’ opinions have been taken and merchants have agreed to open the store.

Arang COO Ashraful Alam said: “We will open our businesses from Sunday, May 10. However, by opening outlets, we place the utmost importance on the health and safety of customers and vendors. In terms For customer security, I make sure the distance is followed first, then the trade.

They also said they will make arrangements for early entry if they enter the store. And inside the store, a buyer will get a maximum stay time of one hour.

“We will take advantage of that opportunity because the government has allowed the store to remain open since May 10,” said Jobayer Islam, manager of the Bata Company. The stores that will be open will be completely hygienic. For this, we have organized a suitable hand sanitizer. Buyers may come to the store disinfected. However, some stores may be closed due to the closure of shopping malls or depending on local authorities.

In this regard, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that in response to a request from the Bangladesh Store Owners Association, permission to open shops and malls was given on Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. In this case, there is no insistence by the government to open the store or not. However, those who open it must follow the hygiene rules. No one can open their store and market if they want.

It is worth mentioning that on May 4, letters from the Cabinet Division were sent to the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Commerce, the Division Commissioners and the Deputy Commissioners. The letter said that a limited number of stores and malls would be open as of May 10 in the event of a coronavirus infection. However, you have been asked to close before 4 pm.

He said that in view of the general situation, the government decided to ban / restrict the holidays from May 6 to 17 in view of the general situation and to improve the situation. In this context, considering the conditions, he has been asked to take measures to open trade and commerce, stores, malls and other activities internally in different districts and upazilas as of May 10. However, in this case, communication / movement between districts and inter-districts must be strictly controlled.

Hats, bazaars, business centers, stores and shopping malls will open at 10 a.m. and they will close at 4 p.m. The letter also mentioned that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare would take precautionary measures against the use of disinfectants when entering each shopping center.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has ordered shoppers to shop at the mall located 2 km from their area. DMP says that each buyer must keep their identity card (ID card / passport / driver’s license), etc. DMP has issued 14 instructions to keep shopping malls and markets open in the Dhaka metropolis.
