To stop the game centered on the Indian Premier League (IPL) game, it was decided to shut down the cable line during the IPL matches in Parshuram and other upazilas. In addition, the municipality is conducting a public awareness microphone to stop playing.
Nizam Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury from Parashuram Township said: “This initiative has been taken to reduce the gambling tendency among the youth of Parashuram Upazila by focusing on IPL games. From the start of the game on Thursday night until the end of the game, the cable connection to the entire area will be closed.
He added: “During the IPL, thousands of young people from the area play in the tea shops. This decision has been made following the complaints of many families. We also have allegations that young people have sold their motorcycles and battery vehicles at half price to raise money to bet on IPL matches.
In addition to keeping the cable connection closed, the speed of broadband Internet in the area will also be limited, said Nizam Uddin Chowdhury Sajeel.
He said the municipal administration has created a team to monitor the implementation of the decision.
No formal or written instructions have been given to the administration of upazila in this regard.
Parshuram Upazila Nirbahi’s officer, Yasmin Akhtar, said she had learned verbally about the directive.
Abul Kalam, manager of Parashuram Digital Cable Network, said that the Parashuram cable television network (DISH) and the WiFi connection will be turned off during the game.
