The deceased was identified as Shahidunnabi Jewel, son of Abdul Wazed Miah from the Shalban Mistripara area of Rangpur. He is a former librarian at Rangpur Cantt Public School and College and a former student at Dhaka University. He became mentally unbalanced after being fired last year.

Babul, a tea vendor from Burimari Union Parishad, told banglanews that shortly after Asr prayers ended on Thursday, some young men wearing T-shirts took off their collars and brought them to the council. At that moment, two and a half people gathered on the Union Parishad grounds. They were all trying to snatch young detainees by spreading rumors of insults to the Koran. When the atmosphere gradually warmed up, like many others, he closed his store and left.

Such incidents would not have occurred if the administration had rescued the two young men and taken them to the police station. As soon as they made the decision, there was a massive explosion at the council premises. So the situation was beyond the scope of the administration. However, those who spread false rumors have killed a devout Muslim and reduced his body to ashes. The merchant demanded his punishment.
A devotee who attended Asr prayers at the Burmamari Central Jame Mosque on Saturday afternoon said the Quran was not insulted. It’s just a rumor. Before the last 10th parliamentary elections, some outsiders turned all of Patgram upazila into a battlefield under the motto of Naraye Tagbir. Numerous houses were burned. He also killed 4 people. They may have something to do with this rumor.
Meanwhile, Patgram police arrested five people in three cases. Deputy Commissioner Abu Jafar has formed a three-member investigative committee headed by an additional district magistrate to investigate the incident. However, RAB is investigating the shadow of the incident. Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) patrols continue in the Burimari area alongside the police.
