The Amar Ekushey Book Fair will be held in February as before, not in a virtual presence, but in a physical one.
Farid Ahmed, president of the Knowledge and Creative Publishers Association, said this on Sunday (December 13) after a meeting with Habibullah Siraj, CEO of the Bangla Academy.
Earlier, publishers arrived at Bangla Academy around 11:15 pm on Sunday to demand to organize the Amar Ekushey Book Fair in physical presence. Leaders of two publisher organizations, the Bangladesh Book Sellers and Publishers Association and the Bangladesh Creative and Knowledge Publishers Association met behind closed doors with Habibullah Siraj, Director General of the Bangladesh Academy, the organizer of the fair.
The editors’ delegation was led by Arif Hossain, president of the Book Publishers and Sales Association, and Farid Ahmed, president of the Knowledge and Creative Publishers Association. Also present at the meeting was the secretary member of the Fair Management Committee and the director of the Bangla Academy, Jalal Ahmed.
The next Amar Ekushey Book Fair was postponed due to the corona virus at the Bangla Academy Executive Council meeting last Thursday (Dec 10). The decision was made to be carried out virtually for the time being. Since then, the issue has been widely debated on social media. The decision of the Bangla Academy is also required to be reconsidered. Among these incidents, the Amar Ekushey Book Fair will be held on Sunday as before, said Farid Ahmed, president of the Knowledge and Creativity Publishers Association.
