The body of an unidentified young woman was found in the cabin of a passenger launch in Chandpur. Naval police recovered the girl’s body from a launch named MV Abe Zamzam at the Chandpur launch terminal on Thursday afternoon. No one was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murders.

Police said MV Abe Zamzam arrived at the Chandpur launch terminal from Sadarghat in the capital on Thursday morning. Although all the passengers alighted at this point, the Grizzerman’s designated cabin of the launch was found closed. And the body of the young woman was found in that cabin.

Sumon Mollah, the brown man at the launch, said the cabin was rented to a man for Tk 800 before the launch left Sadarghat, the capital, last night. A young woman was also with the man at the time. But even though everyone got off the boat in the morning, the cabin was found locked. Sumon Mollah claimed that he informed the rest of the launch personnel if the matter was suspicious. Later they came and opened the lock and saw the body of a young woman lying on the bed. However, the male partner could not be found.

The matter was reported to the Navy and the Police. Police recovered the girl’s body at noon. Chandpur Sadar Circle’s Additional Police Superintendent Snigdha Sarkar chided authorities for not having CCTV cameras at the launch. He said that if there were a CCTV camera, the man who came with the girl could have been very easily identified.

The young man is believed to have strangled the girl to death after the rape. Later, the body was left in the cabin and locked outside and he got off the boat.

There are reports that countless young people come to Chandpur every night to rent cabins on passenger launches leaving from Sadarghat, the capital. They subsequently returned to their destination without any hindrance. Earlier, the body of another young woman was found at the Chandpur launch terminal aboard the MV Abe Zamzam. However, the identity of the unfortunate young woman found three years ago is still unknown.
