Police have recovered the body of an unidentified 35-40 year old woman from a single cabin of the ‘Parabat 11’ motorboat on the Dhaka-Barisal route. The body was recovered from cabin number 391 on the third floor of the Parabat Company launch anchored in the river port of Barisal on Monday morning.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Barisal Sadar Naval Police Station, said the Parabat 11 launch departed for Barisal with passengers from Dhaka’s Sadarghat launch terminal on Sunday night. The launch landed in the river port of Barisal on Monday morning. After the passengers got off the boat, the boat personnel went to check the cabin and learned of the death of the passenger in cabin number 391 and informed the police.
Subsequently, the police went and recovered the woman’s body with a salwar-kameez from the hut with the door open. However, the identity of the woman could not be immediately confirmed. The cabin was assigned to a man. When a call was made to the mobile number obtained from the information on the cabin ticket, it was received by a person stationed at Laksam in Comilla. The person has been known to be in Comilla after initial screening and verification. As a result, the booth is believed to have been seized with a fake mobile number.
The CO said not much was observed initially in the investigation. However, as the door was open, it was initially suspected that someone was with the woman. That is being investigated. Furthermore, the body is in the custody of the Kotwali Police. They will take legal action in this regard by arranging an autopsy of the body.
