It has been alleged that a housewife named Roxana Khatun (23) was not allowed to enter the in-laws’ house after giving birth to a son. Later, the housewife called the National Emergency Service 999 and the police rescued her from the place along with the newborn. Even then, housewife Roxana Khatun was forced to go to her father’s house because she couldn’t find a place in her husband’s house. The incident took place in the village of Ghoramara in the Naldanga union of Sadullapur upazila.

Roxana said that she married Raja Miah, son of Mohabbar Ali from Ghoramara village, a year ago. Two and a half months ago, Raja Mia realized after a medical examination that Roxana was going to give birth to a girl. Then the inhuman torture began on Roxana. Roxana was rushed to a clinic in Rangpur on March 8 after giving birth. There, Roxana’s girl was born by cesarean section. She returned to her husband’s home in Ghoramara at noon Thursday morning after being discharged from the hospital. But Roxana couldn’t get into that house. The lock hung on the front door of the house. Roxana sat in the backyard all day with her four day old newborn.

Later in the afternoon, Roxana’s mother-in-law informed her that she had been divorced three months ago. Finding no way out, Roxana called 999. By then, Cole’s baby was pretty sick.

Sadullapur OC Masud Rana Police Station said police rushed to the scene and rescued Roxana and her daughter. Unable to find anyone at his father-in-law’s house, the police sent him to his father’s house in Sundarganj.

Roxana’s husband, Raja Mia, called her on her cell phone more than once, but got no response. However, when Roxana called her father-in-law’s mobile phone, his wife Achma Begum spoke negatively about her daughter-in-law’s character and said that her son had divorced her three months ago. Achma Begum could not give a satisfactory answer to the question: “How did the son’s wife stay at home for so many days when they divorced three months ago?” Sadullapur Police Station OC Masud Rana said legal action would be taken if a written complaint was received.
