Despite the uncertainty, the 2021 Amar Ekushey Book Fair will be held in February at the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan facilities as before.
However, the fair will not start from the first day of February as before. The schedule of the fair will be announced later.
Due to the coronavirus infection in the country, in the current situation, the Ekushey Loving Book Fair 2021 will not be held virtually or directly, the Bangladesh Academy has doubts about it. Later, the company offered to make the book fair virtual.
On Sunday a meeting of the editors was held with the Director General of the Bangla Academy, Habibullah Siraj.
Both the Bangladesh Book Sellers and Publishers Association and the Bangladesh Creative and Academic Publishers Association have proposed to hold a book fair in February according to the Kovid-19 health guidelines.
Farid Ahmed, President of the Association of Academic and Creative Publishers, said: “We have mutually decided that the Ekushey Loving Book Fair 2021 will be held in February, which has traditionally been held in previous years. However, the date may change a bit.
He further said, ‘We will propose to the Bangla Academy with a possible date and the academy will make this proposal to the government. If the government approves it, the book fair will start any day in February.
Regarding the meeting, the Director General of the Bangla Academy Habibullah Siraji said: “The editors raised their demands and we have proposed to present a plan with the appropriate date considering their Covid-19 situation. The academy must prepare for the fair at least two months prior to that date.
Earlier, it was decided on Friday that the fair would be held virtually for the first time, as the coronavirus situation deteriorated further. The decision was made at the academy council meeting last Thursday.
The fair was officially started at the Bangla Academy facilities in 1972, but the Bangla Academy officially took over the responsibility of organizing the book fair every year in 1986. It was later renamed the ‘Amar Ekushey Book Fair’ and the current Fair of the Amar Ekushey Book was solemnly inaugurated in 1984.
