Rifat Sharif was beaten to death in front of his wife Ayesha outside the Barguna Government College on June 26 last year. The day after the incident, Rifat’s father, Abdul Halim Sharif, filed a lawsuit against 5 or 6 more unidentified people mentioning the names of 12 people. On September 1 of that year, the police filed a complaint against 24 people, dividing them into adults and minors. Of these, 10 are adult defendants and 14 are juvenile defendants.
On January 8, the Barguna Juvenile Court brought charges against 14 minors charged in the Rifat murder case. The court then began taking testimony against 14 accused minors as of January 13. Six of the 14 juvenile offenders were brought to court for the first time while in jail. The eight remaining defendants on bail will be brought to court.
