Taiwan government prosecutors demanded the arrest of a construction engineer in a train accident in a tunnel in Hualien city. But a court in the country granted him bail. They claimed that the accident occurred due to the truck used in the works. At least 54 people died in the worst train accident in 40 years in Taiwan on Friday.

The train was going from Taipei to Taitung with many tourists and vacationers. Along the way, he derailed in a tunnel near the Hualien area. There were at least 500 passengers on the train. As the train was full, many passengers were inside. They fell during the accident. On Saturday, rescuers recovered the bogies from the back of the train. They are almost intact as they are outside the tunnel, authorities said. The bogies inside the tunnel were badly damaged.

Keep in mind that the east coast of Taiwan is a popular tourist spot. Launched in 1989, the Taipei-Hulian Railway has several tunnels.

Many people got out of the bogies behind the train after the accident. About 100 people were rescued from the four bogies. The accident caused many casualties in the four twisted carriages and many were trapped inside the tunnel. According to local media, the train conductor also lost his life in the accident. Meanwhile, President Xi Jinping visited the crash site.
