Like other movie theaters in the country, the multiplex movie theaters now closed at Corona Maharari are all Star Cineplex branches. However, the Bashundhara City Mall branch will not reopen.

Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Marketing and Public Relations Officer for Star Cineplex, told The Daily Star: “It is painful but true. The city of Bashundhara no longer has a Star Cineplex. The Bashundhara City Mall Authority has advised us to close Cineplex. But all our other branches will continue.

He further said: ‘We started our journey with the city of Bashundhara. 17 years have passed here. Many great domestic and foreign stars, Gunijan, have come here. Film journalists have always covered this courtyard. The people of the country used to understand the Star Cineplex of this mall as Cineplex. Changing the direction of such a love is very difficult and emotional for us too. But there is nothing to do.

Star Cineplex, the country’s first state-of-the-art digital installation, opened at the Bashundhara City Mall in 2002. The public won the love of the people of Dhaka and film lovers across the country.

Although the Bashundhara city branch was closed, the SKS (Army Welfare Organization) tower in Mohakhali and the Star Cineplex in the Border Reserve (Rifle Square) shopping center in Dhanmondi remain. Star Cineplex will also open a branch in the mall where the Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur is being demolished.
