Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Abu Zafar confirmed the information on Monday (November 30) evening, saying that the Upazila Parishad president had been suspended following a notification from the local government ministry. The information came from a letter signed by Numeri Zaman, undersecretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
The letter said that he has been trying to make unethical financial demands on various departments of the Parishad since he was elected president of the Upazila Parishad. Additionally, Rural Development Officer Nurela Akhtar has displayed indecent behavior.
All these activities of the president of Upazila create frustration and anger among the employees of Upazila Parishad, whereby the implementation of the activities of Upazila Parishad is paralyzed and the public interest is seriously affected. For all these reasons, it is in the state or council’s interest to carry out the activities of the Upazila Parishad from the moment he is in office.
For this reason, according to section 13 (b) (1) of the Upazila Parishad Law, 1998 (as amended by the Upazila Parishad Amendment) Law, 2011, Aditmari Upazila Parishad President of the Lalmonirhat district Md. Farooq Imrul Kayes has been suspended from the post of chairman of Aditmari Upazila Parishad.
It is worth mentioning that on November 13, 16 administration officials filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner of Lalmonirhat for carrying out administrative actions, including various complaints that include threats and misconduct. During Upazila Parishad’s monthly coordination meeting around 12 noon on Thursday, November 12, Upazila Parishad President Farooq Imrul Kayes demanded part of the VGD and the maternity allowance card from the Women’s Affairs Officer of Upazila. Aditmari Upazila Nirbahi’s officer, Muhammad Mansur Uddin, left the meeting in a rage when asked to prepare the list according to the rules.
Soon after, the president of upazila installed the closed-circuit television camera in the hallway adjacent to the UNO office with one of his personal men. When the matter came to the attention of Upazila Nirbahi’s officer, he immediately went to take a photo of the CCTV camera opening with his mobile camera and the president got angry and started cursing in vulgar language. At that time, the president was saying to UNO: “If you talk too much, I will hit you and send you to Narsingdi.”
At that time, the president said, is the Upazila Parishad owned by your father? Will Upazila Parishad direct? When the Upazila Animal Resources Officer tried to restrain the president, he became agitated and threatened the Animal Resources Officer, saying, “I will get him out of Upazila Parishad.”
