Satkhira: The CID police have been able to unravel the mystery of the murder of Shahinur and his wife and children in Kalaroa upazila de Satkhira.
The police Department of Criminal Investigation (CID) said that Rahanur, who was arrested in the incident, had confessed to killing his brother-in-law and nephew-niece.
According to the information provided by him, the chapati and the towel used in the murder have been recovered.
CID additional DIG Omar Farooq said this at a press conference at the Satkhira CID office on Wednesday afternoon (October 21).
At the press conference it was said that only Shahinur’s younger brother, Rahanur, committed the murder.
Quoting Rahanur, Additional DIG Omar Farooq said that Rahanur is currently unemployed. During the last days he had no income. At the same time, his wife also passed away nine or ten months ago. That is why he used to eat and drink with his older brother’s family. But his wife Sabina Khatun often scolded him for eating and drinking. I did not eat properly. This caused him great anger. At one point he decided to kill Bhabhi Sabina Khatun. To do this, on the night of October 14, she bought Disopen sleeping pills from a nearby pharmacy and Speed (drink) from a local grocery store and mixed it with her and gave her niece to drink. In the evening, Rahanur was watching an IPL game on television at his older brother’s house. At one-thirty in the evening, the older brother came home from the compound and saw Rahanur sitting in his room watching television. At that moment Shahinur scolded him for watching television and said, you don’t pay the electricity bill, why are you watching television? At that moment he told Rahanur’s brother, I will pay the electricity bill for this month, you eat this speed. The older brother then drank the speed they gave him. Then, sometime in the night, he climbed onto the roof of the ledge of Rahanu’s house, entered his older brother’s bedroom through the attic door, and killed his sleeping brother by cutting his throat. Later he killed Bhabi in the next room in the same way. The nephew and niece also woke up when Bhabi screamed during the murder. That is why Rahanur also killed them. Later he threw the knife used in the murder into a large pond next to the house. 
Additional DIG Omar Farooq further said that according to information provided by Rahanur, the knife and towel used in the murder were recovered from the pond with him on Wednesday.
Special Police Superintendent Anichur Rahman from the CID office in Satkhira was present at the press conference.
Shahinur Rahman, a fisherman, his wife Sabina Khatun, his son Mahi and his daughter Tasnim were strangled to death in the Khalsi village of Helatla union in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira on Thursday (October 15). Fortunately, her four-month-old daughter Maria survived.
That same night, Shahinur’s mother-in-law, Moyna Khatun, filed a murder case (No. 14) against unidentified persons at the Kalaroa Police Station. The CID was in charge of investigating the case. Later, the CID arrested Shahinur’s brother, Rahanur, and asked the court for a 10-day pre-trial detention. The court granted him a preventive detention of five days. Three more people, including an employee of Shahinur’s home and two neighbors, were arrested in the case on Tuesday.
