Journalist Anjuman Ara Begum Bonya, a member of the central committee of the Mahila League of Bangladesh, has become the first female mayor of Thakurgaon Municipality. He is the twelfth mayor of this municipality.
In the fourth phase of the municipal elections, the candidate for mayor of the Awami League obtained 26,502 votes and was unofficially elected. His closest rival Shariful Islam Sharif from BNP got just 5,333 votes.
On Sunday evening, Thakurgaon District Return Officer Jilhas Uddin privately confirmed the victory of the Anjuman Ara Begum flood.
Anjuman Ara Begum Bonya Daily has been working as a district representative since the birth of our Time newspaper. He was involved in law for a few days. Local journalists and lawyers are proud of the success of the floods.
Voting began at 8 am at 21 centers in Thakurgaon Township. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) have seen huge voter turnout since the morning. The voting took place non-stop in a festive atmosphere.
Three mayoral candidates, including the Awami League, BNP and Islami Andolan, and 57 councilors contested the election. The total number of voters in this municipality is 60,626. Of these, 29,612 are male voters and 31,015 are female voters.
