The court accepted the testimony of three more people against Majnoor, the only defendant in the rape case of Dhaka University (DU) students.
Judge Begum Mosa of the Dhaka Women’s and Child Abuse Suppression Court-6 on Thursday (Nov 5). He testified in the Kamrunnahar court. With this, the testimony of the case came to an end. At that time, he set November 12 as the next day to present arguments.
Previously, the defendant Majnu was brought before the court from prison. So the testimony began in his presence. The state-appointed lawyer, Rabiul Islam Robi, questioned them on behalf of the defendant Majnoor.
On August 26, a virtual court brought charges against Majnoor in the case. With this, the formal trial against the accused began. Then, on September 20, the plaintiff in the case and the victim’s father testified as the first witness in court. The next day, on September 21, the victim in the case testified against Majnu and identified Majnu as a rapist. Of the total of 24 witnesses in the case, 20 have testified.
Previously, the court had set August 16 as the date to accept the charge sheet in the case. In early March 18, DB Police Inspector Abu Siddique filed a charge sheet against Majnu at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Court. On the same day, the court ordered that the case be transferred to the Tribunal for the Repression of Women and Children for a later trial.
The student was raped on January 5. Later, the student’s father became a plaintiff and filed a case with the Cantonment Police Station under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act.
