A terrible fire broke out in a shoe factory in Gazipur. The fire broke out at a factory called FB Footwear Limited in the Ulusara area of Kaliakair upazila around 4:30 pm on Saturday.
Employees of six fire service units were unable to put out the fire for approximately 4 hours. However, they are working to put out the fire until this report is written in the evening.
Md Kabirul Islam, Kaliakair station officer of the fire service, and the locals said that the shoes and soles were made in a factory called FB Footwear Limited in the Pallividyut Ulusara area of Kaliakair upazila. The fire broke out around 4.30 pm Saturday when an electric motor exploded in the factory with a steel-framed floor and a loud noise.
The fire spread throughout the entire floor and immediately took a terrible shape, as the factory contained flammable substances, including chemicals and soles for making shoes. Seeing the severity of the fire, the workers ran out of the factory. At that time the workers tried to put out the fire but failed.
Upon receiving the news, fire service personnel from six units from Kaliakair, Gazipur, Savar EPZ, Kashimpur and the surrounding stations went to the scene and began to extinguish the fire. The shed of a part of the factory building collapsed due to the severity of the fire. Fire service personnel were unable to put out the fire even after trying for about 4 hours until 6:30 pm.
The fire service official added that the exact cause of the fire could not be determined at this time. However, the fire was initially thought to have originated from chemicals in the factory. So far no casualties have been reported in the incident.
