Turkey has recaptured a ship dedicated to gas exploration in the Mediterranean The ship returned to the country’s Anatolian port after more than a month in the Mediterranean.
The Greek government has welcomed the return of the ship, calling it a “positive step”. Greek Prime Minister Caracas Mitsotakis has called on Turkey to take more steps to resolve the border dispute.
On the 10th of last month, Turkey deployed the ship to search for gas in the Mediterranean region around the Greek island of Crete. In response, Greece, in cooperation with European allies and the United Arab Emirates, organized naval exercises in the Mediterranean region. As a result, tensions between the two countries continue to rise.
Greece claims that the ship was surveying the Mediterranean in a special economic zone owned by Greece. In rejecting the claim, Turkey said it had control of the area where the ship was being searched.
Faced with this situation, the European Union 6 warned of imposing a blockade on Turkey. NATO has taken the initiative to handle the situation. The two countries have already agreed to hold talks to resolve the dispute, the agency said.
Although Turkey has agreed to negotiate unconditionally, Greece has said that it must first stop “threatening” Turkey.
