It has been reported that a teenage domestic worker was raped while drying clothes on the roof of Kalabagan in the capital. When the doorman of the house saw this scene, the girl entered the bathroom ashamed, put a scarf around her neck and committed suicide. Police arrested the accused rapist in the incident.

Jannat (18) is the name of the girl who chose the path of suicide after the rape. Police recovered his body on Wednesday night. The Kalabagan OC Police Station (investigation) AFM Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter.

According to police, Jannat worked as a domestic worker at House No. 56, North Circular Road, Kalabagan. On Wednesday afternoon, he took the wet clothes to the roof of the nine-story building to dry. Junaid, a security guard from the house, grabbed her by the face and raped her.

Khorshed, the house keeper, saw the incident. Junaid pressured him to keep the incident a secret. However, the security guard went and informed the owner. Meanwhile, when people learned of the rape, Jannat entered the bathroom of the house in shame and hanged himself.

OC Asaduzzaman said: “I learned from information obtained from the CCTV camera that Jannat entered the bathroom at 2:16.” He died between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm. The police recovered his body with a scarf wrapped around his neck. Police recovered the body overnight and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College morgue. The body was released to relatives Thursday after an autopsy.

Her father filed a lawsuit against Junaid, a security guard at the home, alleging that Jannat was raped and incited to commit suicide. The case was filed under the Law for the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children. Kalabagan police presented Junaid in court on Thursday, showing his arrest in the case. Junaid was asked to remain in pre-trial detention for seven days to unravel the mystery of the entire incident. The Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (CMM) granted a three-day pretrial detention after hearing from both parties.

OC (Investigation) AFM Asaduzzaman said the matter would be clarified after receiving the autopsy report.
